Why are sightings so important?

Knowing where red and grey squirrels live is vital for helping us identify where red squirrels are doing well, where grey squirrels pose a threat, and to plan and prioritise conservation work as effectively as possible. Sightings records are used to carefully monitor the status of red squirrels and conservation targets at local, regional, and national levels and even at an international level. On top of all this, it also contributes to scientific research, helping us to learn more about squirrels and the most successful ways to protect them.

By submitting a sighting, you give consent for us to store the sightings information provided in a database to be used for the above purposes. For grey squirrel sightings, the information provided will be passed on to a grey control operative where possible to try and control the grey squirrel. You maybe contacted if more information is required about your sighting.

Your help and support is very much appreciated.
